Sam has a long-held aversion to the mountains, so he sits these trips out. Old Heuvelt writes Sam with all the tropes of the young, present-day, rich American.Įverything’s going well for them until Nick heads off to climb a few peaks in the Swiss Alps with his mountaineering buddy, Augustin. Nick is the strong, silent type while Sam is chatty to the point of constant oversharing. In many ways, this relationship works because opposites attract. One is American Sam Avery, who’s been living in Amsterdam because his partner Nick Grevers is Dutch. The book’s story focuses on two young men. It will chill you to the bone, because of its setting and its suspenseful plot. Released in Dutch in 2019 and translated into English for release this week, the book represents excellent horror writing.
